The University of Guyana (UG), the nation’s largest and most prominent university, located in Turkeyen, Georgetown, has taken a significant step towards enriching campus life by launching its first-ever Performance Arts Club (UGPA). Established on April 1, 1963, UG has long been committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience, and this new initiative marks an important expansion into the realm of artistic and cultural development.

The UGPA aims to nurture and showcase the creative talents of students, offering a platform for exploring and expressing their creativity. Whether it’s acting, singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, writing, or spoken-word poetry, the club is dedicated to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where students can develop and refine their skills.

Through a variety of initiatives, including workshops, performances, and community events, the UGPA seeks to foster collaboration, inspire innovation, and build confidence among its members. Students will have the chance to hone their craft, collaborate with peers, and perform before diverse audiences both on and off campus.

Joining the Club

Membership in the Performance Arts Club is open to all members of the University of Guyana community, including students, faculty, and staff. However, only students have the privilege of voting within the club.

The club is committed to inclusivity, welcoming individuals of all races, colours, religions, genders, national origins, ages, abilities, gender expressions, gender identities, and skill levels. Active membership is granted to those who meet the eligibility criteria and pay their semester dues in full within one month of the start of classes.

The launch of the UGPA underscores the university’s dedication to fostering a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic campus environment where academic excellence is complemented by artistic exploration and cultural engagement.

Resignation of Members

Club members have the option to terminate their membership at any point by submitting a written notice via mail to the Board of Directors, or through email.
