Lancelot Giddings, a 26-year-old Plaisance man, is now dead after his motorcycle collided with a pedestrian before crashing into a car on the Liliendaal Railway Embankment on the East Coast of Demerara.
The accident reportedly occurred at 9:35hrs on Tuesday, April, 27.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement on Tuesday, said Giddings, who resided at Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara, was riding his motorcycle CK 2169, when the accident occurred.
Police investigation has thus far revealed that Giddings was proceeding west along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment when 45-year-old Sheldon Booker – a pedestrian of Bent Street, Georgetown – attempted to cross the road, and in doing so, walked into the path of the motorcycle. The two collided in the vicinity of Pump Road, and Booker fell resulting in him receiving injuries about his body.
“The motorcyclist lost control and subsequently crashed into motorcar PMM 309 which was proceeding in the opposite direction. The cyclist fell onto the roadway receiving injuries about his body,” the police detailed.
Motorcar PMM 309, at the time, was being driven by Mahendra Baldeo, a 31-year-man of Shell Road, Kitty, Georgetown.
“Both cyclist and pedestrian were picked up in an unconscious state by Emergency Medical Technicians and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on arrival. At the time of this report the pedestrian was currently receiving treatment for head injuries in the Critical Bay of the Accident and Emergency Ward,” the police further disclosed.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar but no trace of alcohol was found.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the accident as investigations are ongoing.
