Tenant Allegedly Absconds from Critchlow Labour College Premises, Owing $1,000,000 in Unpaid Rent

Georgetown – In a shocking turn of events, a tenant has allegedly absconded from the premises of Critchlow Labour College, leaving behind an outstanding debt of $1,000,000 in unpaid rent and other expenses. This development follows allegations of a series of noncompliance issues with the tenant’s contractual obligations.

According to the Administrative Committee of the College, Dr. Charles Bumbury, the CEO and Director of Education at the C. Douglas Institute of Learning, has been identified as the tenant in question. The Committee’s statement, communicated by the College’s Registrar, Phillip Walcott, outlined the various payments still due, including a security deposit and rent for the months from August to November.

The Committee’s letter highlighted allegations of Dr. Bumbury’s pattern of non-payment and late payments, which constitutes a breach of the rental contract. The Critchlow Labour College has reportedly referred this matter to their legal team for action.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Dr. Bumbury is alleged to have installed and utilized air conditioning units without the College’s permission, leading to a significant increase in electricity costs for the institution. This unauthorized action represents another breach of contract.

In the letter, Dr. Bumbury was requested to clear all outstanding balances by November 30, 2023, and to arrange a meeting with the College Administration to discuss the issues surrounding the installation and use of the air conditioning units.

This incident has raised concerns among the College’s administration and the broader community, particularly given the substantial amount owed and the manner in which the tenant chose to leave the premises.

The Critchlow Labour College, established in October 1967, is now dealing with the financial and administrative repercussions of this incident, as it seeks to recover the large sum owed.
