The Washington Conference on Discrimination was a resounding success

Dear Editor,

Response is made to a Letter dated the 7th day of October, 2023, to the Editor of Kaieteur News titled “Some questions for Roysdale Forde, shadow AG”. That writer is being reminded President Irfaan Ali had 19 fraud charges against him, which were withdrawn by the DPP after he was sworn in as President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall was before the court for the alleged theft of law books from the Government of Guyana. Those charges were withdrawn by the DPP after the PPP was sworn into office.

Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, was also charged. Those charges were withdrawn by the DPP after the PPP entered office.

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo stands accused by Su Zhirong as the points-man for kickbacks if Chinese businesses want to receive lucrative government contracts. Mr. Jagdeo called Su a friend and he was also his tenant. Su, an established businessman and major beneficiary of business opportunities under President Jagdeo, has since gone missing in action.

The Washington conference was a success for all the reasons the PPP regime and allies have gone into overdrive to discredit it. The APNU/AFC were presented the opportunity to interact with US legislators and share our concerns about the PPP poor governance, the opportunity to share and interact with the Guyanese diaspora and others from the global community,  the presence and involvement of civil society at the two-day event. Not to leave out in measuring success are VP Jagdeo’s peddled deceptions about the conference and the public statement issued by House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, part of which is quoted hereunder:

“In the meeting, we discussed a vision for a Guyanese economy and a society that is inclusive, developed and equitable for everyone, including the Afro-Guyanese community. The members of the Opposition underscored the importance of lifting people out of poverty by ensuring economic growth, promoting infrastructure development and strengthening democratic institutions. The opposition leader also expressed concern with racial inequalities that he felt needed to be addressed and the importance of equal protection under the law for all Guyanese.

We will continue to engage with our Guyanese counterparts and other regional neighbors and encourage the government and the opposition to work together to ensure that all Guyanese citizens, regardless of race or ethnicity, benefit from the growth underway in the South American nation.”

The conference was a resounding success.

With regards to the question about me fraternising with U.S based Guyanese Rickford Burke, who the Police under political directive has issued a Wanted Bulletin for, the writer is asked to review the evidence presented above of the PPP leadership and answer the questions he asked of me.

He is further counselled that under the common law principle, which Guyana subscribes to and I respect as a citizen and officer of the Court, a person is innocent until proven guilty.

Yours truly,

Mr. Roysdale A. Forde S.C., M.P.

Shadow Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs
