When Power Crosses Oceans: Guyana’s Risky Embrace of Washington’s Inner Circle

Dear Editor,
What if you were told that slavery is a hoax?
What if you were told that our ancestors’ arrival was by choice, not force?
What if you were told that our ancestors weren’t chained and shackled?
What if you were told that our ancestors were paid for their labour?
What if you were told that our ancestors worked to a contract?
What if you were told that our ancestors weren’t deemed subhumans?
What if you were told that we never experienced religious genocide?
What if you were told that we never experienced culture genocide?
What if you were told that African names we never had?
What if you were told that our ancestors never experienced skin lacerating whippings?
What if you were told that our ancestors never experienced dehumanising lynchings?
What if you were told that our ancestors never experienced systematic brutal raping.
What if your were told that our ancestors never experienced brutish beheadings?
What if you were told that hundreds of millions never died?
Millions never died by suicide drowning.
Millions never died from ravishing infections.
Millions never died from cachexic malnutrition.
Millions never died from brutal beatings.
Millions never died in their excrements. Vomit. Urine. Faeces. Blood.
For these are our inquiries, with PPP fallaciously inferring, Indentureship is equal to Slavery.
Yours truly,
Dr. Mark Devonish
