Angel Budhram was born and raised in Guyana, but like many from her country she left and emigrated to the United States as a teenager. She has lived in New York, Austin and now in Denver, where she resides with her husband and their son.

A graduate of York College, a part of the City University of New York, Angel qualified as a Physician Assistant and has worked in hospitals in Brooklyn, Queens and in Texas.

Always with fond memories of her home in Guyana, Angel decided to write her first book. A Guyanese Alphabet is aimed at children and sets out to teach them something of their parents’ and grandparents’ homeland and the famous people who have shaped its history.

In her spare time, Angel loves Formula 1 racing, hiking, skiing and reading. More often than not her adventurous side comes to the surface and she has skydived and driven across the tundra to see a glacier in the past. She also likes to travel when she has time and it is her dream to travel to all of the continents and sample the different cuisines they have to offer.

Angel’s hope for the future is that her children will grow up with the same love and appreciation for her homeland as she has. She is confident that her book will go some way to instill pride in them and others, and present a positive picture of those who have made Guyana the country it is today.

The Book Synopsis

Are you of Guyanese descent?
Did your parents, grandparents or other relatives come from the country to make a new life elsewhere?
Do you want to teach your own children about famous and important Guyanese people?

Guyana has had its share of famous and influential people throughout its history and it’s important that we hold on to their memories and teach our children about who they were and what they have achieved. From the worlds of politics, sports and theatre to name just a few, Guyanese people have contributed much to their local communities and the world in general.

Now, in this book, A Guyanese Alphabet: 26 Iconic Guyanese People to Know, you can teach your children about some of the icons of this small but prominent country, such as:
– Cheddi Jagan, one of the founding fathers of the country
– International squash player Nicolette Fernandes
– Hugh Desmond Hoyte, the third president who fought against poverty
– Businesswoman Lyla Kissoon
– Poet and political activist Martin Carter
– Actor Norman Beaton
– Valerie Rodway, a composer and musician
– And more…

With a snapshot of the lives of these influential trailblazers to ignite their interest, your child can then embark on further reading to learn even more about each of these people who have all played a part in Guyana’s emergence and transformation.

“A Guyanese Alphabet” could be purchased from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, among other outlets.

Demonstrators protest outside of the U.S. Supreme Court, Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Washington. A draft opinion suggests the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v.
