Linden man died low blood pressure, gastritis

A Linden man who was chased by a woman and her daughter and later found dead, died due to hypotension and gastritis, according to a post mortem examination.

IN a statement police said a post mortem with dissection was performed on the body of Samuel DeSouza by government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh at Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary. In the presence of police ranks the body was identified by the deceased’s brother Daniel DeSouza. At the conclusion the doctor gave the cause of death as hypotension and gastritis. Dr Nehaul Singh explained that the internal bleeding was caused by frequent movement of the deceased which led to the hypotension. He also added that this was also caused by the deceased’s smoking and consuming alcohol which was found in his stomach. The body was then handed over to the relatives for burial.

In an earlier statement police had said that the man died on Saturday between 21:00 and 21:30 hrs at Victory Valley, Linden. In that statement police explained that investigations reveal that De Souza who lived alone at the said address, had an altercation with a woman who, along with her daughter confronted him. He subsequently ran away through an alleyway leading to his home but some thirty minutes afterwards, two unidentified males came out the said alleyway and told the woman and her daughter that De Souza was dead.

Police said on arrival at the scene ranks observed that the deceased was lying on his back in front of his home, a spear was observed resting on his body with what appeared to be blood. Three knives and a screw driver were also found in the deceased’s pants waist. His mouth and right ear had what appeared to be blood oozing from same. There were bruises seen on the exposed parts of his body. The scene was photographed, the three knives, screwdriver and the wooden-handle spear have been lodged. The body was escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex where it was examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival. The body is presently stored at the Pensioner Funeral Home awaiting a PME. The two females were arrested and placed into custody assisting the police in their investigation.
