Letter: PPP Elites’ Lavish Lifestyle Amidst National Hardship a Disgrace-“Let them eat cake!”

Dear Editor,

I urge you to publish an image portraying Irfaan Ali and his cohorts basking in opulence while teachers, public servants, and half of the nation endure hardship. It’s abundantly clear that the PPP party exhibits anti-intellectualism to the core. They disdain education and scholarly pursuits, preferring instead to flaunt counterfeit credentials and elevate political cronies to positions that demand intellectual acumen. This reckless behavior has brought us to our current sorry state.

When I see these images, I can’t help but think of a famous saying often linked to Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France during the French Revolution. It goes like this: “Let them eat cake.” It’s said that when she was told the people had no bread, she replied, “Let them eat cake.” This quote shows how out of touch the rich and powerful can be with the suffering of ordinary people.

The ostentatious displays of wealth, the extravagant parties, the designer accessories worn by these nouveau riche wannabes turn my stomach. While teachers struggle to make ends meet and our children languish out of school, Ali, Jagdeo, and the PPP elite revel as if there were no consequences to their actions.

It’s a disgraceful display of arrogance and indifference!
