The President and Executive Committee of the Guyana Olympic Association is hosting a Sports Medicine Workshop today, 23rd September, 2023,  from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. at the Guyana Olympic Association Board Room, ‘Olympic House’ – Block ‘XXX’, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.

The Executive Committee continues to explore new pathways to enhance athletes’ performance and strengthen the Olympic Association’s policies, vision and strategic plan to evaluate and pave the way forward under the leadership of President Godfrey Munroe. The proposed agenda promises to be one of enlightenment for participants and is a tripartite collaboration between the Guyana Olympic Association , the Ministry of Health and the Guyana Physiotherapists Association.

Topics will include:-

Types of Sports Injury and Management

Factors/steps to decrease risk of Injuries

Importance of recovery for athletes

The roles of coaches in the management of injuries

Psychology and sports- the role of the Sports Psychologists

At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to:

Understand the proposed working relationship between the National Sports Clinic and the  Guyana Olympic Association

Understand how sports injuries are managed

Identify factors which contribute to injuries

Understand steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of  developing injuries

Understand how coaches can support athletes during pre-habilitation and rehabilitation.

The Guyana Olympic Association has engaged its affiliated members and invited coaches and athletes to attend this workshop.

This Workshop will be the first of a series to be undertaken as the Guyana Olympic Association aims to empower its affiliate members through support for executives of National Federations, coaches and athletes
