Jagdeo is being sued for damages in excess of $50,000,000.00 (50 million) “for defamation published in the news interview published by the Second Named Defendant in an interview on 19th August 2022 in Georgetown …and published on the same 19th August 2022, and continuing thereafter and concerning the Claimant.”

Alexander is also suing for damages in excess of $50 million against Jagdeo for defamation published in the news interview published by DPI in an interview on 19th August 2022 and published on 20th August 2022 on the electronic/online DPI version and continuing thereon on the interview.

The offending article is where the vice president has accused officials of IDPADA-G and Cuffy 250 Committee of using the Afro Guyanese cause to enrich themselves.

Alexander is asking the court for a “permanent injunction restraining the defendants whether by their servants and/or agents from further publishing or causing to be published by any means whatsoever, whether electronic or print, the words complained of in the publication contained in the interview” with Jagdeo.

Alexander is also seeking “an Order that the Defendants caused to be published in the electronic/online versions of the Second Named Defendant, a retraction and apology to the Claimant for the false, malicious and malicious and defamatory statements impugning the character and reputation of the Claimant in the publication contained in the interview with the First Named Defendant dated 19th August 2022 on its website.”

Alexander is also seeking “a Mandatory Injunction compelling the Second Named Defendant whether by themselves, their servants and or agents to forthwith permanently remove the interview with the First Named Defendant dated 19th August, 2022 from its website and available on the world wide web…”
