Sixteen small contractors have successfully been trained in essential bidding competencies following a month-long virtual training session facilitated by the International Decade of African Descent Assembly – Guyana (IDPADA-G) in collaboration with the Project Management Institute of Guyana (PMIG).

On May 13, the contractors graduated from the training programme and now form part of the second batch, with the first batch of 22 contractors previously graduating in March 2021.

During a small ceremony, PMIG Director and course facilitator, Mr. Robertson congratulated the second batch of graduates for completing the one-month course and for taking the time to acquire the tools needed to submit successful bids.

According to IDPADA-G, the course work provided participants with information on how to spot or create contracting opportunities; the meaning and structure of Requests for Bids (RFBs); Invitations to Tender, and more.

Meanwhile, invited guest speaker CEO of Camex, Terrence Campbell, shared with the graduates that good contractors are in high demand for both public and private sector projects and that the course was both timely and necessary for African Guyanese contractors.

He shared with the contractors his tips for ‘The Good Contractor’ and encouraged them to keep these tips in mind as the keys to success.

In turn, one of the graduates, Joshua Griffith, thanked the facilitators of the program during acknowledgment remarks. On behalf of the graduates, he thanked IDPADA-G for seeing the need for the course and for acting on that vision and PMIG for crafting and conducting an excellent course for their benefit.

IDPADA-G noted that such training sessions are an important part of its goal of expanding access to business and entrepreneurial training for African Guyanese. A Strategic Planning for Organisational Development training course is set to begin on May 18, 2021.
