Police investigating suspected drowning of Essequibo man

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is investigating the alleged drowning of 56-year-old Pump Attendant, Pooran Kumar Silas of Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast. According to reports, Silas died sometime between December 3 and 4, 2020.

Inquiries have disclosed that on December 3, 2020 at about 12:00hrs the deceased left home and went to a shop in Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, to consume alcohol. According to his sister, he returned home on the said date at about 21:00hrs.

Then, on December 4, 2020 at about 06:00hrs, the body of the deceased was observed in a trench at the front of his home at Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast, by neighbors on the eastern side of Richmond Public Road.

A report was later made at the Anna Regina Police Station on December 4 at 06:30hrs. The body was examined by police for any marks of violence and none were seen on the exposed parts of the body. The body was later escorted to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor on duty who pronounced him Silas. The body was then escorted to the Suddie Mortuary, awaiting a Post Mortem Examination and investigations are ongoing.
