The river still whispers their names,
Carried away by unforgiving waves.
Children who dreamed of tomorrow,
Mothers and fathers swallowed by sorrow.
Their empty chairs now fill with tears,
Their laughter replaced by endless fears.
A nation bows its head in pain,
Praying such darkness never comes again.
The cries of the grieving pierced the sky,
As loved ones asked, “Tell us why?”
Many accused the PPP Government of hiding the truth, Leaving broken hearts searching for proof.They say the nation deserved honesty, not delay, For truth should never be washed away.
Yet while families mourned through sleepless nights, The Opposition Leader stood by their side. Offering comfort where hope was thin, Sharing the burden of unimaginable pain. For when tragedy strikes a nation so deep, Leadership is measured by those who weep.
No barrel of oil can silence these cries.
No wealth can erase a mother’s goodbye.
No promise can restore a child’s embrace,
Or wipe the tears from a father’s face.
The MV Barima is more than a vessel now;
It is a wound upon Guyana’s soul.
Its waters carry the voices of the lost,
Reminding us forever of the terrible cost.
May justice rise for every life taken.
May truth never again be forsaken.
And may those who govern remember this dayβ That a nation never forgets those swept away.
