Chief Investment Officer of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-Invest), Dr Peter Ramsaroop, has stated that approximately 189 new, expansionary and mixed investment projects and agreements were facilitated over the past six years.

This represents $1.06 trillion in private economic investment, with foreign investors accounting for about 73 per cent of recorded investment.

The investment surge is not being driven by foreign capital alone.

Local investors accounted for approximately 20 per cent of the recorded investment, while generating about 49 per cent of the associated employment, underscoring the growing role of Guyanese businesses in the country’s economic transformation.

Dr Ramsaroop told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that the investments are also broadening beyond traditional areas, with capital flowing into mining, services, tourism, energy, ICT, agriculture, forestry and other productive sectors.

Additionally, joint ventures accounted for approximately $72 billion, while diaspora investment stood at about $2.9 billion, with CARICOM capital from countries including Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados also gaining importance.

“The most important story is not simply the amount of capital entering Guyana; it is the broadening and deepening of investor confidence in the Guyanese economy,” Ramsaroop said.

The investment data is complemented by strong national Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) figures. Bank of Guyana data shows gross FDI inflows of approximately US$10.4 billion in 2024 and US$8.43 billion in 2025, largely associated with the oil and gas sector.

Meanwhile, private-sector credit more than doubled from approximately $259.8 billion in 2020 to $531.8 billion at the end of 2025, reflecting increased financing for business activity and expansion.

GO-Invest is now placing greater emphasis on converting this investment confidence into larger productive investments, stronger joint ventures, technology transfer, value-added production and export-oriented businesses.

The agency supports investors in identifying opportunities, accessing incentives, navigating regulatory requirements and connecting with government agencies, local businesses and potential partners.

Locally made and produced items

Its investment facilitation is also increasingly linked to export development.

Over four years, GO-Invest helped approximately 137 Guyanese companies enter export markets and connected 112 businesses with overseas buyers.

At AgroFest in Barbados, about 80 Guyanese businesses participated in 2025 and more than 50 in 2026, with several moving from product exhibition to establishing commercial relationships in the Barbadian market.

For Guyana, the figures point to an investment climate that is not only attracting capital but creating deeper participation by Guyanese and CARICOM businesses.

GO-Invest’s next priority is to build on that confidence by driving more regional partnerships, diversified production, exports, employment and greater value creation within the Guyanese economy.
