Dear Editor,
Last 26th May, 2026, the WIN party celebrated it’s first anniversary in the political arena of Guyana. This milestone marks an achievement that symbolise the sacrifices, dedication and commitments made by members and supporters of this young movement, that continues to serve as a catalyst, towards a much needed change in the political landscape of our country.
Since the birth of this young force, one year ago, in political activism, there have been some empirical evidence to date, which can be produced, analysed and quantified to prove, with no doubts, that this movement had stood up strongly and survived the many challenges and storms, manufactured by the PPP/C dictatorship regime. This was an attempt to place wool over the eyes of those who are now suffering from injustices and oppression, and are now witnessing the magnitude of a political crisis, that our electorate fears more government institutional breakdowns, which threatens the very fundamental norms and rules of a democratic country.
Furthermore, with the increase of structural decays on government projects, particularly of the poor and sub-standard work done on road infrastructures. The continuous widening in the gap of economic inequality, government corrupt practices, that is allowed to go unnoticed by constitutional mandated bodies and fueling of racial and political hostility among others.
When Azruddin Mohamed officially announced he was contesting the last September, 1st, 2025, general elections in all ten administrative regions of our
country. There were tremendous relieve and joy in the hearts and minds of thousands of guyanese supporters living at home and abroad. A genre of musical renditions were composed by our locals to solidify this classical move, made by Azruddin Mohamed, reminisce of Bobby Fisher, former American, world chess grand master. The lyrical sentiments of these musical compositions were repeatedly played across our coastal towns, districts, communities and throughout our indigenous villages of the hinterland regions.
Paintings, flags and enlarged portraits of our presidential hope, Azruddin Mohamed, were mounted, alongside our streets, parapets and lantern posts. Water ferries glided through the rolling waves on the dark coloured coco- cola water tops, making way for the first ever marine political rallies in our riverain areas.
The three shaded colours of blue, white and black flags, emblemed with our national animal, the symbolic jaguar, clattered in the winds to the many smiling faces, creating a regatta like atmosphere, where they all celebrated in unity for an anticipated change they saw approaching on the horizon. But yet a dream to come through for our impoverished nation, where trillions of dollars are now being budgeted annually for our nation’s development.
Thousands of God-fearing families had this young charismatic leader in deep prayers to protect and guide him from any harm by his potential enemies of envy, greed and hate. This good Samaritan had also captured the love and affection from the masses, with the heart connection he established among the Guyanese people from all walks of life. His remarkable philanthropist work was never inclined to be political bias or race based.
He shared his wealth selflessly among the poverty stricken by giving back, a family tradition practiced by his father, “Shell” Mohamed, many decades ago at a village on the east bank of Demerara.
Leading up to his 2025 political campaign treks, Azruddin Mohamed, was recorded to be the only presidential candidate of a political movement to have travelled into the remoteness of the sparsely populated riverain areas of the Rupununi, to have a first hand look at the present living conditions of the natives living there.
Editor, today, there is a much needed healing process for our Guyanese nation, particularly, for those who submitted themselves to the false promises made by the PPP/C government, when they won the general elections in 1992 amid claims to restore democracy under the pretext of “The dawn of a new era”. But these supporters were all hoodwinked and as a result, are now suffering severely from economical hardships and injustices in our country, despite of our oil wealth and financial resources that is readily available in our fastest growing economy.
As a matter of fact, not forgetting those who may have borne the brunt of agony for losing their loved ones, that were murdered by the PPP/C lead phantom squads; including a PPP/C minister of government, who was assassinated together with his family.
The psychological wounds inflicted on our nation by the wicked PPP/C cabal, reveals the brutal scars of yester-year and are relived, when ever hate speeches are repeated at “Babu-John” And from every given opportunity the PPP/C can grip to weaponised our six wonderful races against each other, to continue the divide and rule system.
The hope and faith that were displayed by our people for the much needed change from the PPP/C dictatorship government, became evident during the last election campaign activities. Blue waves of flags were like rippling winds, storming through thousands of acres of rice fields that were ready to be harvested.
Hundreds of thousands perceived that Azruddin Mohamed, was doing a fantastic job in leading the way, for the much needed change., while the former opposition leader failed in holding the PPP/ C government responsible for our country’s social collapse, poverty and corruption at the highest level.
The birth and rise of Azruddin Mohamed into local politics was timely, while he would have already made some positive changes into the lives of many people, with the financial assistance he rendered to those, who were physically incapacitated and otherwise, under privileged.
He also brought great relief and spiritual upliftment to human suffering, among the the very poor indigenous communities, who were neglected and endured abuse and discrimination for many decades in the remoteness of our country; despite a promise made by former president Bharatt Jagdeo, at the commissioning of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, when he made mention; “my government will put an end to the long history of neglect and abuse, suffered by our Amerindian brothers and sisters.
The political challenge to the PPP/C government by Azruddin Mohamed, was by no other means, but a premonition he experienced. He was torn apart by his personal conviction and the brutal game of politics that is practiced in Guyana. Moreso, from what he saw, during his regular visits to the ghettos and remoteness of indigenous communities.
His personal decision to become a politician was inspired and reinforced also by the tears he saw trickling down the many faces of single parents mothers, cuddling their babies, while they had nothing on their table to eat. A spectacle of broken homes, with families trapped in the web of domestic violence, child abuse and unable to send their children to school; in some unavoidable circumstances.
The unpleasant scenarios and cries from the ordinary people, urging him to run for the presidency, compelled his high emotional intelligence and passion to take up the challenge. Hence he vowed to put an end to the deplorable and inhuman living conditions the poor were forced to live under, in this oil wealth nation of ours. As a result, Azruddin Mohamed did not hesitate to place the PPP/C government on the ropes in the opening rounds of his political battle.
He caught the entire PPP/C cabinet with their guards down, when he officially declared he was contesting the 2025 general elections. Sending them into a panic mode, where they scrambled for an emergency meeting at freedom house, while they suffered a pre-election dilemma that will remain in their psyche for as long as they will remember; when they thought that their criminal enterprise, will soon be dismantled and crumble in full view of their nakedness of vulgarity and exposed to the world at large.
The insecurities of the PPP/C began to manifest itself and grow immensely, while Azruddin Mohamed was breaking through formidable strongholds of the PPP/C and winning other party cross overs, leading up to the 2025 general elections. Hence, they felt more threatened and reacted by inciting violence, with abusive confrontations with supporters of the WIN party. But this was not working enough for the incumbent government.
The PPP/C then resorted to their usually dirty tactics, trying desperately to defame the Mohameds dynasty, with well designed fairy tales, that fashioned fabrications with trumped up criminal charges against the young business magnate and fast emerging popular political figure.
The PPP/C dictatorship regime went further to ban Azruddin Mohamed from travelling on all local air services destined to the hinterland to conduct his political campaign activities of which curtailed his movements from strengthening his support base for his WIN movement. However, despite the many plots and schemes that were planned against Azruddin Mohamed, the PPP/C government failed miserably in putting a halt to the great success and dynamics of his political career.
He subsequently garnered sixteen seats at the polls, hence shortly after the general elections, he was harassed and detained by the police and placed before the courts, in an attempt to block him from being sworn in as a member of parliament. He eventually prevailed against all odds and took the oath as a MP and subsequently became the leader of the parliamentary opposition on the 26th January, 2026.
Editor, the WIN movement, remains resolute and steadfast, in celebration of their first anniversary of political activism. This young and dynamic political party, has already proven in a calendar of a year, that it is a movement to be reckoned with. As lead members of the parliamentary opposition forces, the WIN movement continues to bring in the voices of the poor and oppressed. This proactive team has already demonstrated in their political capacity, the interest articulation and interest aggregation, which reflects the will of their political efficacy to lead in their responsibilities to effect their constitutional mandate in holding the PPP/ C government for the present state of affairs in our country.
To date, the honourable Azruddin Mohamed has exhibited the strength, faith and stealth to keep standing firm on his feet and with resilience, from every moment of threats, manipulation and deception meted out to him by his adversaries. He also continues to project a calm, confident and relaxed posture, on the political battlefield, a reflection of the famous Biblical story,” David defeats Goliath”.
Meanwhile, the PPP/C will continue to abuse the state apparatus to intimidate the WIN political aspirations for societal changes in our beloved country.
Kudos to WIN on their first anniversary of political activism.
God bless!
Long live WIN and it’s leader!
Yours truly,
Mark Anthony Rodrigues
