Dear Editor,

The PPP speechwriters truly took us to the top of the hill with the bellicose speeches delivered by government operatives over the past week.

The Church’s Silence in the Face of Injustice Is a Betrayal of Its Moral Responsibility

To Jagdeo, Irfaan and others, Guyana has moved beyond speeches and clown shows made for optics and a false sense of social and economic stability. The PPP’s political Midas touch has created more poverty, divisions and social dislocation.

In every region, there are professionals with bachelor’s and master’s degrees sitting at home unemployed. Every region has vacancies or is ready for development and economic projects that could absorb these professionals. BUT the administration does not see these residents as PPP supporters or money buddies, so nothing is done.

On the other hand, the PPP pushes millions of development dollars into the domain of family and friends.

I challenge the Government to establish a register of unemployed, qualified people in each region. Employ a technical team to work with the respective chairpersons to identify development and economic projects NOW. Keep the REOs out; they are a waste of time.

Release the funding in support of a programme document outlining the expected outcomes and impacts.

The PPP’s political approach to development has failed the nation. With all the speeches, it is time for real action.

Yours truly,
Anil Singh
