Bandits put gun in woman’s mouth

…rob her of cash, cell phone, TV

A 62-year-old Festival City woman was held at gunpoint in the wee hours of Monday morning, and robbed of her cash, cell phone and television set by three armed bandits who invaded her home.

The victim has been identified as Cheryl Barker – an unemployed 62-year-old whom who resides at Hummingbird Street, Festival City, Georgetown.

The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, said that at around 1:30hrs on Monday, Barker was awakened by the sounds of persons walking in her living room and started to scream.

The woman was then confronted by the three perpetrators, who held her down on the bed and demanded cash and jewellery. One of the suspect then placed the gun into the victim’s mouth while the others ransacked the apartment.

The armed bandits, who were described by the police as identifiable, made good their escape with of $160,000 in cash, a Samsung Galaxy cellphone and a 32 inch television. While one of the bandits had a handgun another was strapped with a cutlass.

The police said further enquiries revealed that the suspects gained entry into the home by removing several louver panes from a window located on the eastern side of building.

Investigations are ongoing.
