Amna Ally being treated at Heart Institute

General Secretary of People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Amna Ally is receiving medical care at the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) after falling ill while on an outreach to the flood-hit Pomeroon, Region Two.
“She is in the hospital, she’s not in the ICU. She’s in the CHI in one of those private rooms,” Opposition Leader, Joseph Harmon told the Village Voice News on Sunday night.

“She was with me on the Essequibo Coast over the weekend. We were doing some work in the Pomeroon and this morning she [felt sick] and was taken to the Suddie Hospital. In fact, I think she didn’t take her medication which she normally does. Her pressure and sugar and everything was high. So, they treated her there and we just called for an aircraft to bring her out to Georgetown. Her primary health care person is Dr. Carpen who knows her history and everything,” Harmon revealed.

Dr. Mahendra Carpen is the Head of Medical Services at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and a Cardiologist.
Harmon said that, being at the hospital and given her condition, Ally was required to go through the necessary COVID-19 protocols but her illness is not related to the virus as some media entities have reported. The Opposition Leader said that Ally is recuperating.
Harmon and several other APNU+AFC Members of Parliament (MPs) visited the Pomeroon having collectively decided to transfer their individual $25,000 COVID-19 relief grants and their $25,000 public servants one-off bonus to persons in the lower Pomeroon villages who were adversely affected by severe flooding. They made several stops to villages along the Pomeroon river to lend assistance.
Meanwhile, the PNCR extended get well wishes to Ally on its Facebook page Sunday night.

“Thé People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) extends get well wishes to our General Secretary Cde Amna Ally. Cde Ally became ill durning a recent humanitarian outreach on Saturday in the Lower Pomeroon while distributing food hampers to residents who suffered as a result of over topping in the Pomeroon River,” the Party said.

“The PNCR looks forward to Cde Ally’s speedy recovery. On behalf of the Leader, Executive and members we send our love and prayers,” the statement concluded.
