The Alliance For Change (AFC) has strongly condemned recent attacks on Dr. Terrence Campbell, a member of the Investment Committee of the Natural Resource Fund, by the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government. In a statement issued yesterday, the AFC decried these actions as part of a wider campaign by the current administration to silence dissent and further entrench corruption in Guyana.

Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo has been particularly vocal, accusing Campbell of seeking relevance through his criticisms of the administration. Jagdeo labeled Campbell a “big tax evader,” alleging that he had evaded taxes during the A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) coalition government.

The AFC claims that the latest assault on Campbell is just one in a long line of attempts by the PPP/C regime to stifle opposition and rob the nation of its oil wealth. The party argues that the government’s actions are not merely political disputes but represent a direct assault on democracy, with the aim of securing the nation’s resources for a select few.

Campbell, who has been vocal about the responsible management of Guyana’s oil wealth, is being targeted for standing against what the AFC describes as a corrupt system that siphons away public funds for personal gain.

According to the AFC, Campbell’s stance has made him a target for government figures, most notably Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, who they claim has led a campaign to discredit and intimidate him.

The AFC queried if Campbell’s crime, in the eyes of the PPP/C is: “That he has the courage to stand up and speak to protect Guyana’s oil wealth from being siphoned away into the abyss of corruption that has become the hallmark of this administration. That he dares to ensure the people’s resources are invested responsibly rather than being used as the private purse of the Irfaan Ali-Bharrat Jagdeo regime”

And due to this the AFC pointed out “Jagdeo has launched an unrelenting attack upon him, attempting to discredit, threaten, and silence him.”

The AFC further pointed to recent events involving the scandal over 35 acres of prime state land in Ogle, which has deepened public concerns about government corruption. The party alleges that the PPP/C is attempting to distract from this issue by dragging in prominent figures, such as its leader, Nigel Hughes, to muddy the waters and deflect attention from their own misdeeds.

“The truth is clear,” the AFC continued. “While the PPP/C hands over prime real estate to convicted fraudsters and their cronies, they seek to vilify those who expose them. This is their way. When cornered, they attack. When exposed, they attempt to smear others. When caught, they rewrite the narrative.”

The AFC called on all Guyanese citizens to stand firm against the corruption and intimidation of the current government. “We refuse to be cowered by fear. We reject the tyranny of corruption and intimidation,” the party declared. “We stand with him, [and] we stand with all  who fight for accountability, for a Guyana free from the clutches of despotic rule.”

The statement concluded with a strong declaration of resolve: “The battle for our nation’s future is upon us. We shall not retreat, we shall not falter, and we shall be victorious.”
