By Mark DaCosta- A 16-year-old boy has been remanded to prison following his arrest in connection with the brutal murder of Georgetown City Councillor and businessman Kyle Anthony Solomon. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 5, 2025, in D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown.

The teenager, described as a school dropout, was turned in to the police by his mother after allegedly stabbing Solomon multiple times during a confrontation. The councillor, who represented Constituency Number 9, reportedly died at the scene. The suspect appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he was charged with murder and remanded to prison. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 6, 2025.  He was not required to enter a plea.

According to police reports, the tragic sequence of events began around 4:00 am when Solomon, 47, heard suspicious activity outside his home. Upon investigating, he discovered the teenager attempting to break into his shop, located near his residence. Solomon raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to flee. The councillor pursued the boy and caught up with him, leading to a heated argument.

During the altercation, the teenager allegedly pulled a knife from his waistband and stabbed Solomon multiple times, inflicting wounds to his chest, abdomen, rib cage, and left arm. Solomon collapsed to the ground, and the suspect fled the scene. Emergency services were called, but the councillor was pronounced dead by Dr. Walcott of the Georgetown Public Hospital. His body was later transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where an autopsy confirmed that he died from stab injuries.

The suspect, who remains unnamed due to his age, was arrested and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station before being charged. Police have intensified efforts to gather evidence and locate any additional witnesses. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Kyle Solomon was widely respected as a dedicated public servant and successful businessman.

The murder has reignited discussions on social media about youth crime and public safety. Residents of D’Urban Backlands and beyond have been urged by the police to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
