Guyana is hosting the International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup from October 17 to 31, bringing 15 international teams together for a competition featuring 59 matches across venues throughout the country.

The tournament opened on Saturday, with teams from the West Indies, Australia, Canada, South Africa, the United States, England, New Zealand, India, Pakistan and other cricketing nations participating.

The competition is being staged across 10 venues, including the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, Georgetown Cricket Club, Lusignan Community Centre Ground, Police Sports Club Ground at Eve Leary and Enmore Community Centre Ground.

The format gives each team six league matches before the tournament moves towards its knockout stages and final, scheduled for October 31.

The event offers veteran cricketers an international platform to continue competing while giving Guyana an opportunity to showcase its cricket facilities and host a large-scale sporting event.

The opening fixtures included West Indies against Australia at the Guyana National Stadium, Canada versus South Africa at Georgetown Cricket Club, the United States against England at Lusignan and Rest of the Caribbean against Pakistan at Enmore.

Sunday’s scheduled matches include Australia versus Namibia at Eve Leary, Canada against Colombia at Enmore, South Africa versus Wales at Lusignan, New Zealand against England at Georgetown Cricket Club, and India against Pakistan at Providence.

The breadth of the tournament is expected to draw attention to masters cricket, which provides opportunities for players over 40 to remain active in the sport and represent their countries or regional teams.

For Guyana, hosting the event also creates opportunities for local venues, officials and cricket communities to participate in an international competition.

The organisers have made fixtures, live-score information and match replays available through the tournament’s official website, allowing supporters to follow the action throughout the two-week event.

With the league stage running through the coming days, teams will be seeking early victories to improve their chances of advancing to the latter stages.
