Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) secured a place in the final of the Dave West Indian First-Division 50-over tournament after an outstanding unbeaten century from Mavendra Dindial powered the side to an eight-wicket victory over Police Sports Club.
Dindial struck an unbeaten 114 from just 71 deliveries as GCC chased down Police’s total of 173 in only 20.1 overs during Saturday’s eliminator at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
The right-handed batsman dominated the Police attack, hitting 15 fours and five sixes to lead GCC to 176 for two and secure the final berth.
GCC’s chase suffered an early setback when Kevin Sinclair was dismissed for 10 in the opening over. Dindial responded by taking control of the innings, sharing a second-wicket partnership of 110 with Matthew Nandu, who contributed 26.
After Nandu’s departure, Dindial continued his assault alongside Akshaya Persaud, who remained unbeaten on 11. Their unbroken partnership added 56 runs to complete a comprehensive victory.
Police, meanwhile, struggled to establish momentum after being sent in to bat. They were dismissed for 173 in 34.4 overs, with Vishaul Williams top-scoring with 37 and Kyle Michael contributing 36.
Yudistir Persaud, Aryan Persaud and Devon Lord each played an important role with the ball, claiming two wickets apiece.
The victory sets up a final against Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the tournament organised by the Georgetown Cricket Association.
Police’s defeat marked their second setback in the race for the final, following an earlier loss to DCC in the qualifier at Queenstown.
For GCC, Dindial’s innings provided a decisive display of aggressive batting and placed the club one win away from the tournament title.
Dindial, a former West Indies Under-19 representative who recently played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors, will be a key figure when GCC meets DCC in the final.
The championship match will determine the winner of one of Georgetown’s major domestic 50-over competitions.
