What an outstanding achievement for Guyana! Ashley Khalil and Mary Fung-A-Fatt have captured a well-deserved Silver Medal in the Women’s Doubles at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games, adding another podium finish to Team Guyana’s growing medal tally.
The Guyanese duo displayed remarkable determination, composure, and teamwork throughout the competition, producing a series of outstanding performances against some of the region’s strongest pairs.
Quarterfinals – Statement Victory
Khalil and Fung-A-Fatt announced themselves as genuine medal contenders with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Dominican Republic’s Estelle Rodriguez and Bermelyn Peña. Their aggressive play, disciplined shot-making, and excellent court coverage proved too much for the home pair as Guyana advanced confidently to the semifinals.
Semifinals – Redemption in Style
In one of the performances of the tournament, the Guyanese pair produced a magnificent 2-0 upset over Guatemala’s top-seeded duo, Tabita Gaitan and Darlyn Sandoval. It was a composed and fearless display that showcased the tremendous progress of Guyana squash. The victory not only secured a place in the gold medal match but also guaranteed Guyana another medal at the Games.
Final – Proud Silver Medalists
The Guyanese pair battled courageously in the championship match but went down 0-2 to Colombia’s experienced sisters Laura and Paula Tovar, settling for an impressive Silver Medal. While the gold narrowly escaped them, Ashley and Mary can hold their heads high after an exceptional campaign that demonstrated resilience, skill, and the fighting spirit that defines Team Guyana.
Congratulations to Ashley Khalil and Mary Fung-A-Fatt on this outstanding achievement. Your commitment, perseverance, and professionalism have made the entire nation proud and continue to inspire the next generation of Guyanese athletes.
Congratulations, Squash Queens! Thank you for making Guyana proud!
