Guyana’s boxing team is set to begin its quest for medals at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with three national boxers scheduled to enter the ring on Sunday as the country’s campaign gathers momentum.

Representing the Golden Arrowhead are Terron Wintz, Desmond Amsterdam and Colin Lewis, who will each contest their respective Round of 16 bouts against some of the region’s top amateur boxers.

The announcement was made by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), which said the wait was finally over as Team Guyana prepares to launch its boxing campaign.

“The wait is over! Guyana’s boxing team is set to begin its medal campaign at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with Terron Wintz, Desmond Amsterdam, and Colin Lewis all stepping into the ring on Sunday, 2nd August.”

The association noted that the trio enters the competition following months of rigorous preparation.

“After months of dedicated preparation, intensive training camps, and successfully completing all competition requirements, Team Guyana is ready to proudly represent the Golden Arrowhead against some of the region’s finest boxers.”

The Guyanese fighters will compete according to the following schedule:

  • 2:36 p.m. – Men’s 70kg Round of 16: Terron Wintz vs Kyghan Mortley of Saint Lucia.
  • 3:36 p.m. – Men’s 80kg Round of 16: Desmond Amsterdam vs Daniel Ali Shillingford of Dominica.
  • 8:00 p.m. – Men’s 65kg Round of 16: Colin Lewis vs Peter Wendell Murray of Barbados.

Victory in their opening contests would see the Guyanese boxers advance to the quarterfinals and move a step closer to securing medals at one of the region’s premier multi-sport events.

According to the GOA, all three athletes will be seeking to make an immediate impact when they step into the ring.

“The Guyanese trio will be looking to make a strong statement in their opening bouts as they pursue places in the quarterfinals and continue their quest for CAC Games medals.”

The Central American and Caribbean Games bring together thousands of athletes from across the Caribbean, Central America and parts of South America, providing a major platform for regional sporting excellence and an important stepping stone for international competition.

The GOA also called on Guyanese to rally behind the national team as they carry the country’s hopes into the competition.

“Let’s rally behind Team Guyana! Wishing Terron, Desmond, and Colin the very best as they step into the ring carrying the hopes and pride of a boxing nation.”

“Bring home the glory! Go Guyana!”
