Cricket West Indies (CWI) has expressed profound sadness at the sudden passing of Norman Gilbert, President of the Grenada Cricket Association and a member of the Windward Islands Cricket Board.
In a statement issued Friday, CWI President Kishore Shallow described Gilbert as a committed and visionary leader whose service to cricket in Grenada and across the wider Caribbean left a lasting legacy.
“It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the sudden passing of Mr. Norman Gilbert, President of the Grenada Cricket Association and Member of the Windward Islands Cricket Board,” the statement said.
On behalf of the regional cricket body, Shallow extended condolences to Gilbert’s family, friends and the wider cricketing fraternity in Grenada and throughout the region.
“On behalf of Cricket West Indies, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire cricketing fraternity in Grenada and across the region,” Shallow said.
Gilbert was praised for his unwavering dedication to the development and promotion of cricket, particularly at the grassroots and administrative levels, where he was credited with helping to strengthen the sport’s foundation in Grenada.
“Norman was a committed and visionary leader who served the game with distinction. His unwavering dedication to the development and promotion of cricket in Grenada, and his genuine passion for uplifting the sport at all levels, have left an indelible mark on the cricketing landscape,” the statement noted.
CWI said Gilbert earned widespread respect throughout the cricket community for his integrity, humility and ability to inspire players, administrators and stakeholders.
The regional body noted that his impact extended beyond administration, describing him as a steward of the game who understood cricket’s power to unite communities and create opportunities.
“He was a true steward of the game who believed deeply in its power to unite and uplift communities,” Shallow said.
Gilbert, who was elected President of the Grenada Cricket Association in late 2024, also served on the Windward Islands Cricket Board, where he played a role in shaping cricket development across the sub-region.
CWI said it stands in solidarity with the Grenada Cricket Association and the people of Grenada during this period of mourning.
“At this difficult time, we stand in solidarity with the Grenada Cricket Association and the people of Grenada as they mourn this significant loss,” the statement said.
The regional cricket body said Gilbert’s contributions to the sport and the strong structures he helped build in Grenada would ensure his legacy endures.
“Norman’s legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the strong foundation he helped to build for cricket in Grenada,” Shallow said, closing with the words: “May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
