The Government of Guyana has begun deploying special teams to assist hinterland residents in registering for its $100,000 cash grant, addressing concerns about access to banking services and the online registration system.

Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Ashni Singh, announced that teams are being set up to support residents in remote communities, emphasizing that the absence of a bank account will not prevent anyone from receiving the grant.

According to the minister, teams have already been deployed in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), with additional support centres to be established across coastal areas. These centres will be staffed with technical personnel to help citizens complete their registration.

“Even if you’re not able to register yourself because you encounter a problem, centres will be established to assist you to register,” Singh stated during an interview on the National Communications Network (NCN).

The government has allocated $60 billion in the 2026 budget for the cash transfer programme, which targets all Guyanese aged 18 and older. Of that sum, $5 billion has been earmarked for distribution among public servants, including teachers and members of the joint services.
