The Caribbean joined the global observance of Earth Hour on Saturday night, with countries across the region dimming lights at 8:30 p.m. in a symbolic show of commitment to sustainability and climate action.

In a statement, the CARICOM Secretariat said the region stood in solidarity with millions worldwide, using the moment to highlight the power of unity in addressing environmental challenges. As darkness fell across parts of the Caribbean, the Secretariat noted that the gesture underscored a deeper message—that collective action can drive meaningful and lasting change.

The Secretariat’s Energy Programme Unit emphasized that Earth Hour goes beyond symbolism. “Earth Hour is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a powerful reminder that collective action can spark lasting change,” the unit stated, reinforcing the importance of sustained efforts toward environmental responsibility.

The initiative also spotlighted the role of renewable energy in the region’s future. Members of the Secretariat team, including Cameron, Selvine, and Brian, shared perspectives on the urgent need for cleaner energy solutions and encouraged citizens to play an active role in building a more sustainable Caribbean.
