Sir Ronald Sanders has been appointed Chancellor of the University of Guyana, filling the vacancy left by Professor John Edward Greene, President Irfaan Ali announced.

President Ali praised Sir Ronald’s extensive experience in scholarship and diplomacy, saying he “brings to this role an exceptional record of public service and international engagement that aligns closely with the University’s aspirations for academic excellence and global visibility.”

Sir Ronald holds a Master’s in International Relations from the University of Sussex and honorary doctorates from the University of the West Indies and the University of Guyana. He has served in senior academic roles in London and Toronto, and internationally as Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States and the Organisation of American States, including three terms as President of its Permanent Council.

The appointment is expected to strengthen the University’s academic standing and global reach, particularly as Guyana invests in developing its human capital.
