Guyana Deserves Better — And the Time for Change Is Now!

By Roysdale Forde S.C- To every Guyanese at home and abroad, we must confront a hard truth: while the PPP/C has succeeded in maintaining power, it has failed where it matters most — in improving the everyday lives of our people. Despite the immense wealth flowing through our economy — an astounding US$76.1 million per day in a country of fewer than one million people — too many of our children still face under-resourced schools, our hospitals struggle with shortages, and our youth continue to emigrate in search of opportunity and dignity.

This is not the result of unfortunate circumstances. It is the product of deliberate mismanagement and a deeply entrenched political culture that puts loyalty above merit and privilege above service. The result is a government that governs for the few, while the many bear the weight of neglect. This style of leadership is suffocating the dreams of our people and making the nation increasingly vulnerable to poverty and its many consequences.

The PPP/C has not simply failed to govern. It has perfected the art of deception. Behind the polished speeches and endless propaganda lies a harsh and unforgiving reality: a government more committed to preserving its power than improving the lives of its citizens. It thrives on distraction while poverty deepens, inequality widens, and national institutions crumble from chronic underinvestment and political interference. This is not governance. This is exploitation masquerading as leadership.

And yet, while the country struggles, Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo appears weekly at press conferences with trademark bravado, accusing others, particularly those viewed as political opponents, of corruption. He does so despite a growing list of credible allegations involving massive corruption by government officials and senior PPP/C party members across nearly every sector of society. The irony is unmistakable — and offensive.

A government entangled in scandal cannot lecture the nation on integrity.

Accountability must begin at the top.

For too long, the people of Guyana have endured the burdens of a government that promises much and delivers little. The PPP/C administration, cloaked in empty promises and gilded narratives, continues to rule through corruption, cronyism, and a blatant disregard for the aspirations of our people.

The time for change is not just near — it is long overdue. But real change doesn’t come from hope alone. It comes from a united, conscious, and mobilised people who are ready to act. The power to reshape our nation lies in our collective hands. And that power must be exercised decisively — at the ballot box.

Let us rise — not in anger alone, but with resolve, with unity, and with purpose. Let us vote for leadership that truly serves, and a future that belongs to all Guyanese.

We in the APNU-WPA have watched, with worrying alarm and righteous indignation, as our people are robbed not just of their economic dignity but of their democratic voice. Under this administration, accountability is a farce. Transparency is mocked. The procurement system, and key state and allied statutory institutions are increasingly being used as tools of political control rather than as guardians of public interest.

Corruption in infrastructure: Inflated contracts, sole-sourcing, and kickbacks define the PPP/C’s approach to development. Projects are over-budget and under-delivered — if they are delivered at all. Local communities across the country, from Region 1 to Region 10, know the truth: you get nothing unless you wear red.

Economic exclusion: In the midst of an oil boom, ordinary Guyanese are still struggling to afford basic necessities. The cost- of -living skyrockets, while the PPP/C government lines the pockets of foreign companies and a few well-connected insiders. Where is the wealth of our resources? Why are we not seeing a truly transformative agenda to uplift the poor and working-class?

Disrespect for constitutional order: The PPP/C governs not as a partner of the people, but as a dictatorship masked in democracy. The Opposition is sidelined, local governance is manipulated, and key legal provisions are ignored or twisted to suit partisan objectives. This is not governance — this is oppression.

Still, amid this darkness, there is a growing light.

That light is the collective will and energy of the people — and the strength of the APNU-WPA alliance, committed to delivering real change, real development, and real justice for all Guyanese.

We must rally around a united opposition that understands the struggles of our people, that respects constitutional governance, and that offers a clear vision for equitable and inclusive progress. APNU-WPA represents that hope. We are not perfect, but we are principled. And we are ready.

Ready to build a Guyana where no child goes to bed hungry.

Ready to ensure our oil wealth benefits the many, not the few.

Ready to create a government of laws, not one of loyalty and lies.

Ready to elevate our youths, support our farmers, respect our Indigenous communities, and restore dignity to every village, town, and city in this country.

Fellow Guyanese, it is time we break the cycle

The future of Guyana cannot be left in the hands of those who exploit it. The PPP/C regime has had decades to prove their worth, and what have we seen? A cycle of betrayal, division, and decay.

Guyana’s future is in our hands, and together, we must shape it. I call on all patriotic Guyanese — from all walks of life, across all races and regions — to join us in building a new Guyana. A Guyana that works for all. A Guyana where the government serves the people, not the other way around.

This is more than a political moment — it is a defining national calling. The soul of our nation is at stake. And history will not forgive those who chose silence over action, or comfort over courage.

Now is the time to rise — together — and remove this stain imposed on our great nation. Let us reclaim Guyana’s future with unity, conviction, and unwavering purpose.
