The investigation into the death of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge has taken a critical turn with the hiring of a veteran Canadian homicide expert, even as mounting forensic questions and public skepticism cast doubt on the official drowning narrative.

The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this morning that Leonard McCoshen, a retired investigator from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), has been brought in to assist local authorities.

McCoshen’s  reported credentials: over 30 years of investigative experience, including 20 years in the RCMP’s Serious Crimes Branch, where he handled more than 200 homicide, kidnapping, and suspicious death cases. Officials say his expertise will bolster efforts to determine the true circumstances of Adriana’s death.

The child’s body was discovered on April 24, 2025 in the Double Day  Hotel pool one day after she was reported missing during a family outing. A post-mortem examination concluded that she died by drowning. However, skepticism about that conclusion has only intensified in recent weeks.

In a rebuke of the official account, the family’s attorney, forensic legal expert Dr. Dexter Todd, called the case a homicide. Critically dissecting the state’s account of  what transpired Todd in a social media post said: “If she drowned, it was in a limited amount of water. Her body was not submerged,” Todd stated. “If she drowned in the pool, her body would have been bloated and swollen… she would have surfaced face up, big and bloated. This is a homicide case!”

Adding to the gravity of the situation, the Guyana Police Force has confirmed that water samples from the hotel pool have been collected and sent overseas for independent forensic analysis — a move that signals the investigation is far from settled.

The presence of an international homicide expert, coupled with an overseas forensic review, reflects the seriousness of the case and the growing unease with how it has been handled so far.

A central question that persists is: Was Adrianna Younge’s death truly an accident — or something far more sinister?
