Your Child’s Future Isn’t Defined by One [NGSA] Exam—It’s Just Beginning

Dear Parent,

I know you may be feeling anxious today. You’ve worked hard to ensure your child had the right lessons. You made sacrifices, encouraged discipline, and supported them through preparation for what has long been considered a “high-stakes” NGSA exam.

Today, I want to offer you two powerful words: “Relax.” “Have faith.”

Have faith that your child will be okay, no matter which school they are assigned. Trust in their resilience and your continued support. Remember, there are only about 1,000 spots at what we traditionally call “top schools,” yet over 14,000 children sat the NGSA. That math doesn’t add up, and it never has.

In any classroom, even in the most prestigious schools, you’ll find 25 students with 25 different stories, 25 stages of preparation, 25 ways of understanding, and vastly different levels of support at home, both financially and emotionally. The real truth is this, success today is not confined to a school building or a school name.  Parental involvement remains the most important factor in the future success of a child.

Here’s the good news, your child is growing up in a time when opportunity is more accessible than ever. Whether they’re assigned to Queen’s College or a community secondary school, they can still excel, and you can still support them every step of the way.

Let me share a little-known fact, many of the students placed at top schools will still enroll in extra lessons at various stages of their academic journey. And now, no matter where your child is placed, you too have the power to offer them the same support, through free platforms like YouTube and Khan Academy, and through Guyana’s first online afterschool program – Pathway Online Academy.

Pathway Online Academy provides high-quality lessons in Math, English, Science, and Social Studies for students in Grades 1 through 12. Every lesson is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s curriculum, and now, for just $5000 per month, your child can access;

  • 4 subjects
  • A live teacher
  • Daily structured support
  • From anywhere in Guyana, at any time

And here’s the best part: you don’t need to be a teacher. All you need is the commitment to help your child sit with their lessons for just one hour a day.

So, parent, don’t despair if your child didn’t get into one of the “top schools.” They are growing up in a moment of limitless possibility. With your love, your guidance, and the right resources, they can go as far as they dream.

So breathe. Smile. Encourage your child to enjoy their youth. The journey is just beginning, and the best is still ahead.

Warmly,
Karen Abrams / Director, STEMGuyana
Pathway Online Academy
