By GHK Lall- Who is telling the truth, or is at least closer to it, in this sordid Melly Mel saga?  Who has it right?  Ms. Atwell Holder says a few things that further scorch the PPP Government.  On behalf of the same PPP Government, the Hon. Attorney General, Mr. Anil Nandlall, SC, MP, OR (that’s coming up, the blind faithful have to be rewarded), put some different things on the record.  I count the honourable one personal Facebook sheet part of the official record.  Why not?  For the public record also, when I summon a word like

honorable and attach it next to Attorney General Nandlall, nobody in Guyana can begin to fathom the engineering feats that must be executed.  So again, I ask the hard question, seeking the hard facts.  Who has it right, Mr. Anil or Ms. Atwell-Holder?

The Folly of Fragmented Afro-Guyanese Leadership, in Guyana’s ‘Oil Rush’ Economy?

The troops of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) don’t move to put people on ice just for the heck of it.  Salvadorean detention of Venezuelans notwithstanding.

Ms. Melly Atwell was right there on the firing line, forced to respond and not perjure herself before federal officers.  From the flavor and texture of the inquiries, she should know.  She also knows a whole lot more than most Guyanese about what is going on here, at elevated levels in the government.

Certainly, more than I do, since my knowledge encloses only a fraction of hers relative to the dirty and costly things done to the Guyanese people at the hands of their own Guyana Government.  To repeat, this is not some puppet government put in place in Essequibo by Nicolas Maduro, but the Government of Guyana, the real McCloy, and supposedly purer, straighter, sweeter.  In addition, the ICE men have, or could have had, access to Ms. Melly’s immigration filings, their timings, and where those leave her lining up in the finalising (or regularizing) of her residency status.

So, the question continues to gnaw at the edges of the consciousness: was ICE recruited to shakeup Ms. Melly, or was it to shakedown her resolve about her sources of those social media revelations?  The wounded female Guyanese activist had her say, and it wasn’t favorable to the PPP Government of Ali, Jagdeo, and Nandlall.  Guyanese should know what they say about too many cooks in one kitchen.  The same applies in a government.  Arguments erupt.

True to form, AG Nandlall decided that the best approach was to argue his position on Facebook.  Methinks, the man protesteth too much.  He is learned enough to know when to leave alone what is best left well alone.  Just as how the PPP powers frown on their agents engaging truth tellers in the media, so Mr. Nandlall should have let the Melly Mel matter move on to its place in the museum.

Surely, it is reasonable to think that at a time like this in this town without such scant regard for the law at all levels (especially that occupied by his own government), there is none who could be busier than Guyana’s erudite attorney general.  Does this leading officer of the law not have sufficient work to occupy his overwrought mind?  Is he that competent that his desk is always cleared of the troubling issues that arise in this lawless democracy?  I think that is eligible for oxymoron recognition -lawless democracy.

For there it is, an environment riddles with crimes and contradictions.  Cybercrimes traceable to Mr. Nandlall’s Congress friends.  Unaddressed and unsolved.  Street crimes that make blood run into the gutters, a la Main Street, and there is Guyana’s AG, an officer content to palaver and engage in nak gat nak bak on Facebook.  Cold cases and red-hot crimes, and the AG is the picture of spirited energy in the putrid back alleys of 21st century communication.

From one brother to another, get a hold of thyself, friar Anil.  This prancing and preening on Facebook is unbecoming of a man of his sterling ranking; exposing of a citizen with his luscious record.  He who knows better must do so.  I am.  How about it, Mr. Attorney General?  Give it a try, my liege.  It might be difficulty to the point of appearing insurmountable at the beginning, but with continued practice, the going at representing what is right gets easier from then on.

In a fit of civic duty, I had cautioned both the demented powers in the PPP Government and the immaculate AG before.  Fix the running sores, don’t look to settle scores.  Squeeze out the pus from the party, and leave squeezing of conscientious objectors alone.  Attempt to make an example of the outspoken, and get a flock of spokes for the thoughtlessness.

Plus, there is the high probability of making heroes and heroines for all the energies expended.  Nobody in the PPP listened.  Now they have the pleasure, once again, of listening and reading and crying over whatever Ms. Melly Mel Melissa Atwell Holder receives and makes it her duty to share with the rest of an openmouthed world.  From the last reports, she is in Brooklyn.  Now, the PPP of AG Mohabir Anil Nandlall has double trouble on its hands.  On this occasion, it is developing in Bridgetown, Barbados.  Tangled webs, devious folks.  How I see it, call it.
