SGCC proudly hosted the highly anticipated International  Business Conference (IBC) Suriname 2025, which commenced on February 4th at the Assuria Event Center,  Suriname. IBC marks the beginning of three days of discussions, strategic collaborations, and investment-driven  initiatives, all under the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Suriname.”

The opening ceremony welcomed over 500 delegates, featuring high-profile business leaders, policymakers, and  industry pioneers from Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Curacao, and other international markets. Attendees gathered  to explore Suriname’s vast economic opportunities across key sectors such as trade, technology, finance,  infrastructure development, agriculture and energy.

The conference was officially launched by Dr. Vishnu Doerga, Chair of the SGCC, who set the stage for insightful  discussions and transformative investment opportunities. His opening remarks echoed the importance of fostering  regional cooperation and unlocking new avenues for economic growth.

A pivotal moment of the conference was the presentation of a comprehensive proposal by SGCC for a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the management of the Canawaima Ferry Service. The proposal was formally presented  to H.E. Virjanand Depoo, Guyana’s Ambassador to Suriname, and H.E. Liselle Blankendal, Suriname’s  Ambassador to Guyana.

Delegates were privileged to receive an exclusive, virtual message from H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of  the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and an keynote address from H.E. Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the  Republic of Suriname. Both leaders emphasized the critical importance of cross-border collaboration and strategic  partnerships, particularly for smaller economies like Suriname and Guyana. Their speeches highlighted how  regional cooperation is key to driving sustainable economic transformation, creating mutually beneficial trade  ecosystems, and enhancing investment opportunities.

IBC Suriname 2025 is set to continue delivering strategic discussions and driving collaboration over the next two  days. As business leaders, government representatives, and stakeholders engage in high-level discussions, this  conference will play a pivotal role in positioning Suriname as a major hub for trade, investment, and economic  growth in the region.
