Three of the four people accused in connection with the deadly bombing at a Georgetown Mobil service station have challenged the prosecution’s evidence, following a court development on Thursday, September 10.
The no-case submissions were filed during committal proceedings before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Those challenging the prosecution’s case are Venezuelan nationals Jhonny Boodram and Alexander Bettencourt and Guyanese-Venezuelan national Krystal LaCruz.
The fourth accused, Venezuelan national Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo, has not filed a no-case submission.
The proceedings stem from the October 2025 bombing at the Mobil service station, an explosion that killed six-year-old Soraya Bourne and injured several other people.
The defendants face terrorism-related charges.
The defence submissions seek to challenge whether the prosecution has presented sufficient evidence for the accused to be committed to stand trial.
Attorney Melvin Duke represents Bettencourt, Mikel Puran represents Boodram and Tifane Rutherford represents LaCruz.
The filing does not amount to a finding of guilt or innocence. It is a procedural challenge to the sufficiency of the prosecution’s evidence.
The case has attracted considerable public attention because of the death of the child and the nature of the alleged attack.
The court must now consider the submissions and the evidence presented by the prosecution before determining the next stage of the proceedings.
The case remains one of the country’s most closely watched criminal matters stemming from an alleged terrorist act.
