By Nicole Telford- Regional Chairman Deron Adams said Linden Generation-Z is watching the People’s Progressive Civic (PPP/C) administration treatment of them with regards to sports.  He said the PPP/C failure to create, rehabilitate and complete sport infrastructure within the region is a clear sign to Linden’s youth population of how much the government views them or cares.

Adams explaining in an interview with Village Voice News said, “the Gen-Zs are on social media, they are seeing the infrastructure other countries have to promote youth development, the youths of Linden are investing and operating small businesses that not only includes food and cosmetics but sporting and other activities, so they should be able to invest and earn from sporting events as well.”

Adams added that lack of completed sport infrastructure hinders the drive and competitiveness of athletes which will stifle the annual events engagement of the various sport disciplines.  He noted too that “there is no real job creation by Govt nor the private sector ongoing in Linden only several campaigns promise and continued promises of call centers being realized to employ hundreds by the PPP/C administration at the PPP/C outreaches in the community.”

Adams said Linden is a community strong and competitive in most sport discipline with football, basketball, table tennis, track and field and swimming major activities within the region.

The Chairman said the youth is the largest voting bloc of the nation and should be able to thrive especially with Guyana’s wealth and its oil resources.

Indicating that there are no sport facilities that’s fully operational within the region, since the last four years of the PPP/C government in office. He said, “the Government’s Minister of Sports either lacks the capacity to engage with his cabinet members on issues pertaining to sport for Region #10 or he is complicit in his party’s method of strangulation and complete suffocation of Linden youth.”

Adams emphasised that as it relates to sports, the Mackenzie Sports Club which was torn down for rehabilitation works is yet to be completed. the swimming pool at Kwakwani and linden is in disrepair, the bleachers at the Linden Synthetic Track incomplete, grounds and bleachers at Ituni and Kwakwani needs attention and lights that were to be installed at Coomacka, Speightland and Christiansburg grounds are still on the ground since 2021.

Incomplete Sports facilities in Region 10 due to PPP Government neglect

The Chairman said, “the government has declined to share the comprehensive plan and accompanying photos of the sports facility upgrades for the Mckenzie Sports Club despite repeated requests from the members of the management committee, club members and other concerned citizens.” Adams said “as Regional Chairman, I believe it is our right to be informed about such projects, especially when they involve public resources.”

Meanwhile the Regional Chairman urges that rewards by government to youth who are successful in their events outside of Guyana should be considered by the PPP/C government citing that “we would like house lots or houses being given to our athletes. Under the [A Partnership of National Unity and Alliance administration] APNU +AFC we invested in athletes like Chantoba Bright, an icon of Victory Valley who was given a piece of land to construct her house. She received a scholarship from a US College and is currently overseas, and Daniel Williams who also received a house lot from the APNU +AFC administration.”
