By Mark DaCosta- Amidst the joyous celebration of Linden’s 54th Anniversary, Region 10 Chairman, Deron Adams, exhorts residents to embrace Linden Town Week with profound pride and nostalgia. This annual commemoration, “One People, One Nation, One Destiny – Linden the Heart of Our Nation,” pays homage to the enduring legacy of the town’s transformation and unwavering community spirit. Linden Town Week 2024 ends on May 6.

Joined by esteemed officials such as Mayor Sharma Solomon, Regional Vice Chairman Mark Goring, Member of Parliament Devin Sears, and Deputy Mayor Dominique Blair, Adams rallied the community to uphold Linden’s rich heritage and unity in the face of adversity.

Reflecting on the essence of being a Lindener, Adams remarked, “Lindeners are uniquely proud of their town, and identify themselves loudly and proudly as sons and daughters of this town of ours wherever they may find themselves.” Adams made clear that this sentiment encapsulates the profound sense of belonging and camaraderie that defines our community.

As Linden Town Week unfolds, residents and visitors can look forward to a diverse array of activities meticulously curated to showcase the town’s cultural vibrancy and resilience. From captivating cultural showcases to exhilarating sports competitions and impactful community service initiatives, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

In acknowledging the challenges faced by the municipality, Adams extended gratitude to the Guyana Police Force for their proactive efforts in ensuring the safety of residents and businesses during the festivities. He urged all residents to remain vigilant and collaborate with authorities to uphold collective security.

Linden Town Week holds a special place in the hearts of Guyanese, symbolising our unity and resilience in the face of adversity. It serves as a testament to the grassroots efforts of ordinary citizens who first conceived the idea in 1996, driven by a desire to showcase Linden’s wonders and promote community pride.

As we honour Linden Town Week, we also reflect on the rich history of the municipality. From its humble beginnings as a company town to its emergence as a vibrant hub of commerce and culture, Linden continues to thrive through unity and collective action. Together, residents continue to shape the destiny of the beloved town, ensuring that it remains the true heart of our nation.
