In the heart of Charity, Essequibo, a powerful collaboration between Be Her Hero and STEMGuyana is giving new meaning to education, empowerment, and innovation. The newly launched Charity STEM Club is sparking curiosity and creativity among young minds transforming how children see technology and their potential to shape the future.

Founded by Colleen Prince and led by President Savina Sukhnandan, Be Her Hero is a sisterhood of strong, compassionate women committed to helping others rise, heal, and grow. The group focuses on empowering women through education, mentorship, and community programs. With this new partnership, Be Her Hero has expanded its impact—reaching into the classrooms and hearts of children across Charity.

“We realized how much our community needed activities that not only entertained our children but also taught them real-world skills,” shared President Savina Sukhnandan. “STEMGuyana’s programs bring that perfect balance of fun, learning, and creativity.”

Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

The Charity STEM Club currently has 17 enthusiastic students, with more joining each week. Each session blends learning with play as students explore robotics, coding, and technology. Using laptops, tablets, and hands-on kits, they learn how to design and program the same kinds of characters they interact with in video games turning their curiosity into creation.

“The children leave every session excited and proud,” said Sukhnandan. “Their favorite part so far is building robots their faces light up every single time.”

STEMGuyana has been instrumental in bringing this dream to life. Through mentorship, training, and access to technology, the organization continues to make STEM education accessible to children across Guyana.

“STEMGuyana has played a major role in supporting our vision by empowering youth through education and innovation,” noted the Be Her Hero team. “Their programs inspire confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills, especially among young girls. Together, we are shaping a generation of leaders ready to create positive change.”

Beyond Robotics: Building Confidence and Community

Be Her Hero’s biggest takeaway from hosting robotics classes is that empowerment begins with opportunity. These sessions are more than lessons in science or coding, they’re lessons in teamwork, leadership, and perseverance.

“When women and youth are given the right tools and guidance, they achieve extraordinary things,” said Sukhnandan. “Through these robotics sessions, we’ve seen confidence bloom, friendships strengthen, and futures take shape.”

As Charity’s first STEM Club grows, it stands as a model for what community collaboration can achieve. By investing in education and innovation, Be Her Hero and STEMGuyana are proving that small towns can dream and achieve big. The initiative is not just building robots; it’s building resilience, creativity, and the foundation for a brighter future.
