University of Guyana Offers New Scholarships to Berbice Cricketers

In an inspiring move for sports and education, Dr. Paloma Mohamed Martins, Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana (UG), has unveiled two new scholarships dedicated to the talented cricketers of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB). The announcement was made during the inauguration of the BCB Wall of Fame at UG’s Tain Campus.

These scholarships, one for a male cricketer and one for a female, cricketer are aimed at nurturing the athletic and academic potential of the players managed by the BCB. The BCB President, Hilbert Foster, expressed the board’s commitment to the advancement of education among cricketers, acknowledging the significance of this initiative as a part of the collaborative efforts with UG.

Dr. Martins emphasized the university’s dedication to supporting young athletes in achieving their educational goals while pursuing their passion for cricket. The application process, along with the eligibility criteria, will be disclosed by the BCB shortly.

In a ceremonial gesture, Chancellor Edward Greene presented the official scholarship letters to President Foster, symbolizing the partnership between the University of Guyana and the Berbice Cricket Board.

Aspiring cricketers are encouraged to stay alert for the forthcoming application forms and seize this remarkable opportunity to combine their sporting prowess with academic excellence.
