GTT Needs to Prioritize Reliable Billing and Service over PR Stunts

Dear Editor,

I write to express my frustration and disappointment with GTT’s recent self-congratulatory statements regarding their alleged 150,000 fiber lines, while many communities, including mine, continue to suffer from service outages. It is disheartening to witness their leaders engage in constant celebrations and PR stunts while ignoring the pressing issue of providing reliable and affordable services to their customers.

A quick search on social media reveals a disturbing pattern; an abundance of complaints about GTT’s subpar and overpriced service, overshadowing the contrived celebrations pushed by their PR team to convince the Guyanese people that their service is actually decent. It is evident that they prioritize public relations events and government visits over addressing the genuine concerns and needs of the Guyanese people.

The responsibility lies with those who report to the CEO, as they seem to have failed in their duty to ensure quality service provision. While GTT may currently enjoy significant revenue from their claimed 150,000 lines, they should be aware that competition is on the horizon. Soon enough, the dancing and partying will cease, and they will be left to face the consequences of neglecting their customers.

It is high time that GTT focuses on fixing the internal issues plaguing their operations. Instead of indulging in empty celebrations, they should prioritize investing in infrastructure, enhancing customer support, and delivering reliable and affordable services. The people of Guyana deserve better treatment from their service providers.

Sincerely,
Nadine Budhoo
