Last night, at a special ceremony held at the Field Museum in Chicago, a delegation from SRCS consisting of Leroy, Justin, Alyssa, Kimmy, and Maya proudly received the Parker Gentry Award. This highly coveted award is presented each year to individuals, teams, or organizations who have made a significant impact in the field of environmental conservation and whose approach can serve as a model to others.
The SRCS team was recognized for their more than 20 years of work in preserving the wildlife, environment, and culture of the Rupununi. This award has brought a tremendous amount of attention to the Rupununi and Guyana, highlighting the efforts of communities, civil society, and the government to maintain the beauty of our amazing country.
The Parker Gentry Award acknowledges the outstanding efforts of the members, friends, and supporters of SRCS in preserving the natural heritage of the region. The award has helped to shine a spotlight on the vital conservation work being done in the Rupununi and Guyana, as well as the efforts of those working tirelessly to preserve the environment.
SRCS expressed their gratitude to the Field Museum for the incredible honor and recognition. They also thanked everyone who has made this award possible, including their members, rangers, partner communities, collaborators, donors, partners, and government counterparts. The organization looks forward to continuing their essential work and helping others to replicate their success across Guyana and the rest of the world.
The Parker Gentry Award is named in honor of two renowned conservationists, Theodore A. Parker III and Alwyn Gentry, who dedicated their lives to studying and protecting the environment. This award serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and the vital role that individuals and organizations can play in preserving the natural world for future generations.
