Jaglall was the former overseer of the Rosignal Neighbourhood Democratic Council. She had been caring for the suspect and his two children since his wife passed some time ago.

Amrita, a neighbour of the elderly woman said she heard when the man was beating the woman Thursday evening but was too scared to inform the police as the man would threaten her, “he does cuss me that me carry news on him”

It is unclear as to what may have triggered the beating, however; neighbours noted that they discovered Jaglall’s body in the house on Thursday morning after returning from work.

“This morning around 6 am he find her. He does always be beating her because up to yesterday afternoon (Thursday) he was beating her but I don’t want to be involved. It look like since last night this happen because he is a security at a school and like he beat her last night and left she home and gone work”

Reports are that the man told neighbours on Thursday morning that persons broke into the house and killed the woman while he was at work. He also told neighbours that his six year old daughter, saw when the ‘man’ went into the house last night.
“He come over and tell we that somebody kill the lady in the house and when he come home this morning he find she like that. So he ask if we hear anything and I said no, that I was up late and didn’t hear anything. He said that he daughter said she see somebody in the house”

Neighbours also noted that on many occasions the woman would be seen with marks of violence on her body but never sought help as the suspect would always tell her that “nobody else nah mind you, is me gatto mind you”.
Jaglall was described as a very quiet and easy going person.
Police in West Berbice have since arrested the man and placed him custody as an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
