In a statement police said ranks at about 20:40 hrs on Monday acting on information that the Mazaruni Prison escapees were hiding out at a location in the Better Hope South backlands, went to the said area where it was observed to be an abandoned field in a bushy and swamped area.

The ranks observed that there were three wooden shacks on the field with two partly constructed ones. The police ranks began clearing the first shack but no one was seen. According to the release as the ranks were approaching the second shack, a voice was heard in the third shack and the ranks immediately called out indicating police were in the area.
A male immediately emerged and discharged a round at the Police and then ran, the police statement said. The Police ranks returned fire. Two males and a female were wounded and lay in the shack with gunshot injuries, whilst one male escaped.
A sawn-off double barrel shotgun was found at the scene.

Back in February Jones and Ramsaywack along with Kenrick Lyte and Samuel Gouveia escaped from the Mazaruni Prison. Gouveia was in prison for manslaughter while Jones had been sentenced to 28 years for a similar offence.
Ramsaywack, 25, was admitted into the Mazaruni Prison on July 4, 2019 after he was condemned for murder. Based on a description provided by the Prison Service, the 25-year-old Indo Guyanese has an old scar on his left side of his stomach, is 5”8” in height and brown in complexion.  His last known address is Lot 7 Adelphi Village, East Coast Berbice.
The other wanted murderer is 44-year-old Kennrick Lyte of Grant Goodintent, Lower Pomeroon River. The man, who is of African descent, was admitted to the Mazaruni Prison on March 1, 2019 after being condemned for murder. He is 5”8” in height, brown in complexion and has a scar at the back of his left arm and freckles on his chest.
The Prison Service, in a statement had said the Police Force in its efforts to recapture the inmates, is appealing to members of the public, relatives and friends to give any relevant information as to the whereabouts of the escapees, so that they can be captured and returned to the prison.
“Also an appeal is being made to the escapees to surrender to the police or relevant authority, to avoid any serious confrontation that is likely to result in the use of force,” the Prison Service said.
It said too that all information provided will be treated with a high degree of confidence and also the rights of those escapees will be respected and upheld.

However, weeks later  Ralph Jones – the father of Ryan Jones was arrested for harbouring his son.
It is alleged that the man had  collected the clothes that the prisoners were wearing and dumped them in an alleyway aback his house in Fourth Avenue Bartica.

Police ranks subsequently went to the identified location and found a white ‘salt’ bag that contained the following items: clothing, footwear, deodorant, topes, pillow and pillow-cases, along with a bottle of Red Star rub, a toothbrush and a food bowl.
