Covid-19: our biggest existential threat

We have never been closer to the precipice. A virus our biggest existential threat. An unknown, unseen and poorly understood virus that dwells among us. A virus postulated to have been birthed in a laboratory by white coated men but more likely in an exotic animal market by black aproned mongers. But such expostulations are now inconsequential. For married we are to the virus that takes it’s vow, “till death do us part” quite literally. Wedded but nomadic. No fixed lung of abode. And elusive too. For like a chameleon, it’s imagery perpetually under transformation. Mutate, the word healers with stethoscopes speak of. An enigmatic and indecipherable submicroscopic being.

Viral mutation
Indeed micro-organisms have been around for years.
But these invisible assassins never saw the extinction door. Assuredly, Charles Darwin said it best in his theory of “Survival of the fittest.” Organisms that can’t adapt to environmental changes will go extinct. And this must be the secret underpinning their longevity. For unquestionably these viruses live a life and death in unceasing hand to hand combat, with all they count hosts. And the battle is brutal. The virus endeavours to annihilate the host as the host relentlessly sets out to decimate the virus. Indeed us humans are such a host, battling with sophisticated immune-systems, vaccines and killer medicines. But despite our sophisticated armoury, victory eludes us as the virus have their own anti-missile defence system working synergistically with memory longer than that of a cheated spouse. For like a spurned lover, they make a mental note of our termination methodology. What receptors we deactivated in immobilising their now martyred squaddies. What genetic material we mimicked to read their inner thoughts? Certainly, recognising their weaknesses became their strength. For all fallible targets exploited in extinguishing their buddies will be changed. Mutate, rendering such artillery ineffectual.

But viral mutations are not new. For micro-organisms, including bacteria and fungus, have been practising this dark science long before Adam ate Eve’s apple. But our new fiend Covid is in a unique position. Advantageously, it has footprints in every continent. Pandemic from the epidemiologists’ lips. But as a rule, vaccination was never undertaken during a pandemic. In fact vaccination usually predates exposure. For it sets our immune-system in the mood to make antibodies. These antibodies will serve as soldiers on the infection battlefield. But vaccinating when the virus is ever present and active, will bring the virus in intimate contact with our Covid vaccines. And the virus would be moronic not to take advantage in reading our vaccine codes. And that they did and is doing. Spike protein attacked. Spike protein changed via mutation. Rendering the vaccine less effective. But above all, the Einsteinian virus recognises when they are less effective against some lungs. Likely vaccine induced. Likely previous Covid infection. But that will be sorted too. Mutate with the resulting upgrade much more contagious. And even deadlier. Respect your elders is the message.

Genomic Surveillance

Indeed viruses are more likely to mutate in areas of high virus density. More virus translates to more secret agents to share their mutations. In fact, Britain occupies top podium for Covid fatalities in Europe. More than 100,000 who will never experience the disaster in Brexit. Also Britain won gold in mutation identification. Not the first to have it. For as their Oxford scientists did genome surveillances, Trump was busy fighting to stop a steal he never had. Surely frivolous matters of genome surveillance was not on his exit bucket-list. South Africa felt then saw their variant. Over 1.4 million infections and 42,000 dead. Brazil stunned by their variant. Ravaging the country. Astronomical numbers of infections and deaths. More than 8.84 million and 217,000 respectively. All their oxygen cylinders emptied by the Covid cyanosed. Two beds. Fifteen patients. A toss of a die will decide. Who dies. Mass-graves overflowing. Vertical burials their last hope. Hell in Amazon. For our porous borders are no match for this killer variant. They are roaming our streets, undertaking surveillance. Our airports will soon bring backup from the UK and SA. Rest assure they are not after our oil.

Brazilian variant should be worrying for us

The UK variant, seventy times more transferrable and deadly, is causing ginormous numbers of deaths, hospitalisation and lockdowns in Britain. The South African variant clearly still apartheid angry,  is not contented with mundane killings as vaccines destruction, bar Pfizer and Moderna, is added to their lethal repertoire. The Brazilian variant outpointed the UK variant on the transferability and virulence scales. The deadliest of the deadly at our doors thanks to PPP open ports policy. Their business enablers rewarded. Gracias!

Dollars over deaths with deadlier consequences

For like Noah I preached of the impending disaster for which I was banished to the Ark by those I considered kin. But even on the mountain top I screamed of the dangers of the PPP-Government white cane manoeuvres around Covid. I knew they were heading in a deadly direction when reopening the economy became their number one priority. I knew doing so is anti-science which will only result in a Covid catastrophe. For Covid is like a jealous lover. Not getting enough attention so all photos and numbers are deleted. A loveless Covid will act no differently. Deleting many of us. Ideally the clueless triple P’s should have set flattening the Covid curve as their number one priority. Reduce deaths. Reduce hospitalisations. Reduce infections. But rewarding their business enablers was their priority as they assuage us with lipservice on safe public health practises. In fact, since last August I vociferously argued against reopening the economy, reopening our ports, reopening our airports and decreasing the curfew time at a time when the number of cases and deaths were increasing exponentially. Now those reopened airports have provided a red carpet welcome to the deadly variants. Now these questions are PPP’s to answer.

What have they done to enforce compliance with face mask?
What have they done to ensure strict adherence to social distancing?

What surveillance is in place to stop social gatherings, indoors and outdoors?
What monitoring do they have in place for people quarantining and self-isolating?

Can they justify reopening the airports rather than flatten the curve?
Can they justify decreasing curfew-time when Covid deaths and infections are increasing exponentially?
What impenetrable protections do they have at our borders to keep the Brazilians and other variant vectors out?
What legislation have they enacted to provide legal protection for those on the Covid frontline?
Can they justify the many billions spent on a dead sugar industry over life-saving Covid vaccines?

For this PPP-Government is an abysmal failure.
