According to reports, Ramnarine, at about 16:30h was cooking in a building where he resides when the suspect, who appeared to be intoxicated, approached him and started an argument. The intoxicated man then left the building.

About five minutes later, Ramnarine was standing in front of the building when a colleague who was inside of the building told him to run. Immediately after the alert, Ramnarine saw the intoxicated man pointing what appeared to be a shotgun at him.
An explosion was heard after Ramnarine said he felt a burning sensation and numbness in both of his legs.
“In fear for his life, the man ran into an abandoned building and locked himself inside,” Police said in a statement.

On January 23, 2021, the injured man was assisted by public spirited persons and taken to the Port Kaituma District Hospital where he was admitted. Ramnarine is said to be in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
