Suspects in foiled armed robbery at Sonshine Supermarket arrested

Police have arrested two men after a foiled armed robbery attack on two salesmen attached to Sonshine Supermarket, Chesney Front, East Berbice –Corentyne (Region Six) on Saturday.

The botched attack has left the salesmen nursing injuries.

The duo shot Lochan Matadeen, a salesman of No. 63 Village, Region Six, to his left chest. Matadeen is listed as critical at the Anamayah Memorial Hospital, while his colleague Ravindra Hardyal, 32, is nursing a wound to his face after a bullet grazed him.

“Two boys roll up on a bike while we were packing this truck with goods from the supermarket and they grab the other guy and the other one come and grab me but I fight him off and before they jump on back on the bike they fire two shot, one miss me and the other graze me and hit the other boy that get shot to his chest”, Hardyal recounted.

The injured man said the truck had just arrived when the two men appeared from behind the truck and attacked him and Matadeen. It was while fighting one of the men, that he received injuries to his face.

“Them boys load the truck so I was coming out to just ensure they have everything and that’s how I see them coming towards me but I run through the side but the bullet still catch me when he fire the shot,” Hardyal recounted.

Investigations are continuing.
