Cops destroy $3.4M in ganja at Gatetroy Village

The Marijuana field destroyed by Police

…firearms, cartridges found in separate exercise

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Wednesday destroyed over $3.4M worth of marijuana plants at Gatetroy Village in the Berbice River.

According to a statement, Police during a drug eradication exercise unearthed a field of harvested marijuana plants along with a camp. Almost 300 plants measuring about 6 feet high were completely destroyed at the location along with the camp.

No arrests have been made.

The firearms and cartridges found by Police.

Meanwhile, at DeVeldt, ranks of ‘B’ Division discovered five firearms and 15 cartridges on the floor of a house during a similar eradication exercise. A man, who was in close proximity to the premises, upon seeing the Police made good his escape.

The law enforcement officers were unable to locate him.

The weapons have since been lodged at an undisclosed police station.
