Cop involved in serious accident after swerving from horse

A 27-year-old Police Constable stationed at the Cove and John Police Station was on Saturday involved in a serious accident on the Buxton Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

According to reports, the constable, Athea Garnette of Lot 85 Enmore North, East Coast Demerara who was riding motorcycle CK 664 and was carrying pillon rider Jomo Thompson, 30, of Lot 196 South Betterhop, ECD, swerved from hitting an unbranded horse, lost control and fell onto the roadway.

Both Garnette and Thompson received injuries to their heads and about their bodies. They were picked up

They were picked up in a conscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where the pillon rider went away without seeking medical attention and the driver of motor cycle was seen and examined by doctor on duty and admitted to the Male Surgical Ward. He is suffering from a swollen brain and injuries to his mouth. His condition is listed as serious.

Further enquiries are ongoing.
