Seven persons were on Saturday injured in an accident on the Moblissa Public Road, Linden Soesdyke Highway when two motor cars collided and ended up in a ditch.

According to Police, at about 10:45h, Andy Pompey, 41, a Major of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and stationed at Camp Seweyo, was driving motor car PXX 8574 south along the eastern side of the road when Krishna Seenarine, 28, of Kara Kara Squatting Area, Amelias Ward, Linden, driving motor car PVV 8911 proceeding north along the western side of the road, overtook a vehicle and ended up in Pompey’s path.  The GDF officer told police that on seeing Seenarine in his path, he pulled east to avoid a collision but despite his efforts the vehicle collided to the right side of his after which both drivers lost control of their vehicles and ended up in a ditch.

The drivers and occupants which included Pompey’s wife Shennet and daughters, aged 11 and 13 of Golden Grove, EBD and Sonia Roopnarine, 19, and a one-year-old boy of Central Amelias ward Linden, were taken out of the two vehicles in a conscious state by public spirited citizens and were transported to the Linden Public Hospital.

Shennet Pompey and her two daughters, Krishna Seenarine and baby boy were examined by doctors, treated and sent away. Andy Pompey suffered a fractured leg. He was treated and sent away by doctors while Sonia Roopnarine suffered a fractured right hip and was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Roopnarine is a patient of the female surgical ward.
