The assault on the policeman was videotaped by onlookers and quickly posted to social media.
Below is a police statement on the matter
Reference the video in question, police are investigating several traffic offences as well as an alleged assault committed on a police constable who was performing traffic duties at Regent and King Streets, Georgetown about 1430 hrs when he observed a motor cycle proceeding south along King Street, a northern bound one way.
As a result of the observation, the rank approached the driver of the motor cycle who then jumped off the said motor cycle and began walking towards the King Fish snacket. The constable then called out to the driver to stop but he did not and instead went upstairs at king Fish snacket at which point the constable took control of the motor cycle when the driver ran out from the snacket and dealt him several cuffs to his head, face and other parts of his body.
However, with the assistance of other ranks that arrived at the scene they were able to restrain and arrested the driver who was escorted to the Brickdam Police Station station where it was observed that he is not the holder of a drivers licence and had no insurance for the motor cycle. He was placed in custody pending charges.
