Prison escapees recaptured

Swift and tactical action by members of the Joint Services following information received, resulted  in the recapture of two of the October 20, 2020 escapees from the Holding Bay at Lusignan.

Back in  custody are Alex Matthias  and Arnold Kennedy. They were recaptured at Zeelugt Public Road East Bank Essequibo. The prisoners will aid in the ongoing investigation for the escape and they will also be processed for charges.
“Thanks to all those persons who helped to get the information about the escape out to the public, the support of the public for providing information on their location and the Joint Services members for conducting a clinical recapture,” Prison Director Gladwin Samuels said in a statement.

Mathias of Good Hope Dock Yard, Essequibo has been committed to stand trial for murder. The case underway at the Leonara Magistrate Court.
Kennedy of Lot 847 Zeeburg Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara was also ommitted to stand trial for murder.

The third escapee who is still be recaptured is Mark Rafino of Goed Intent Village, West Bank Demerara. He was committed to stand trial for robbery.

Initial investigations revealed that the prisoners were checked on about 17:00h on Tuesday and locked in and about 2300 hrs Joint Services Ranks on the ground received information that the prisoners had escaped.  An alarm was raised and the ranks immediately conducted checks around the prisons and its nearby environs but did not locate anyone.
